Summary of Position: Resident Care Volunteers must have a general understanding and acceptance of comfort care philosophy as they will be responsible for assisting to implement the end-of-life care plan and treatment of residents as established by the Executive Director, Manager of Resident Services and Hospice. They will also assist with providing support to the residents and their families.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Includes the following and any other possible job-related duties requested by supervisor authorized to give instructions or assignments. 

·        Resident Care Volunteers typically cover one 4-hour shift Monday through Sunday, ranging from 7am-11am, 11am-3pm, 3pm-7pm or 7pm-11pm. 

·        Must abide by all Matthew House policies and procedures including all health & safety protocol currently in place.

·        Responsible for taking required time to read and comprehend all resident care plan documentation throughout their assigned shift.

·        Personal care of the residents including bathing, dressing, oral care, and linen changes.

·        Assist with toileting (either incontinence care or bedpan, urinal, commode, transferring to the bathroom, emptying catheter, etc.)

·        Provide nourishment & meal prep according to the resident care plan.

·        Medication administration according to the established care plan (including suppositories, breathing treatments, narcotics & morphine.)

·        Must be able to accurately complete resident care documentation including the medication log sheets and resident blue daily log.

·        Helps to maintain the clean and hazard free environment at Matthew House.

·        Responsible for the completion of all required in-services and training updates.

·        Will welcome and sign-in visitors according to Matthew House protocol.

·        May assist with answering the phone and taking messages as needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands include the ability to care for residents with limited mobility. Ability to exert up to twenty pounds of force frequently and/or move up to thirty pounds occasionally. Will be provided training on proper body mechanics. Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with extensive reading, preparing documentation, administering medications and direct care/oversights of residents.   While performing the duties of this position, the volunteer is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, maneuver stairs, talk, hear, reach, use hands to finger grasp, handle, or feel and perform repetitive motions of hands and/or wrists. Duties are performed in a comfort care home environment where the worker is exposed to low to moderate noise level. They may include handling garbage, soiled linens, bodily fluids, strong unpleasant odors, etc.

 

 

Qualifications:

·        Must be over the age of 18 and be able to work as part of a team.

·        Minimum High School Diploma or higher education required.

·        This position requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.

Troop Co-Leaders work in partnership to provide a caring and safe environment while working directly with girls, helping them develop their leadership skills; have the enthusiasm and ability to generate girls’ interest in the ways they can discover, connect and take action through Girl Scouting.

Upon approval, a Troop Co-Leader is appointed for a one-year term that is renewable upon completion of an evaluation process. The position requires an average amount of 20 hours per month.

Troop Co-Leaders work in partnership to provide a caring and safe environment while working directly with girls, helping them develop their leadership skills; have the enthusiasm and ability to generate girls’ interest in the ways they can discover, connect and take action through Girl Scouting.

Upon approval, a Troop Co-Leader is appointed for a one-year term that is renewable upon completion of an evaluation process. The position requires an average amount of 20 hours per month.

As a Troop Co-Leader, you will gain knowledge, build teamwork and learn new skills.

Troop Co-Leaders report to the local Service Unit Manager. The Troop Co-Leader receives support, guidance, and encouragement from the Membership Manager. They have access to relevant learning opportunities and materials that prepare for and support this role.

As a Troop Co-Leader, I willWelcome, as members of the troop, youth and adults from all racial, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and ability levels.Involve troop members in program planning and decision-making.Help the members take responsibility for carrying out the plans for the troop.Organize fun, interactive, girl-led thematic series of activities, addressing current interests.Meet with the group on a regular, agreed upon basis.Acknowledge troop and individual accomplishments through frequent positive reinforcement and recognition.Maintain all troop records and finances. Submit annual financial report by May 31 each year.Attend Service Unit meetings on a regular basis or ensure that your troop is represented at the meetings (a minimum of 3 times a year).Support progression in the Girl Scout Program.Encourage troop participation in Service Unit and Council events.Turn over all Girl Scout property to the Service Unit or designee when terminating the leadership position.Deliver a Girl Scout Leadership Experience that incorporates the Girl Scout Journey and Badge materials.Serve as a positive role model - model positive attributes such as reliability, respect for others, and a positive attitude.Communicate with caregivers and service team on a regular basis with updates related to troop’s progress.Ensure all troop members register as members of GSUSA in a timely manner.

Qualifications and core competencies:

Youth focus: Empower Girl Scouts to choose and adapt activities, learn by doing, cooperate with others, and reflect on what they’ve accomplished (as well as on current issues that involve their interests and needs) while having fun.

Adaptability: Adjust, modify your own behavior, and remain flexible and tolerant in response to changing situations and environments.

Oral communication: Express ideas and facts clearly and accurately.

Foster diversity: Understand, respect, and embrace differences.

Computer skills: Access to e-mail and the Internet, plus knowledge of social media.

Additional requirements:

Bilingual preferred (if applicable)Become a registered member of GSUSAComplete required coursework as assigned and provided by Girls Scouts of NYPENN Pathways and GSUSA.Special interest Troops/Groups have additional requirements related to the specialty. Depending on the specialty, leaders may be required to provide proof of experience with subject matter or equipment related to astronomy, backcountry camping/hiking, or watercraft.
