Description: Greater Cayuga SPCA is looking for candidates who support our mission to alleviate the suffering, promote the comforts, improve the conditions, and prevent cruelty to animals. Candidates are expected to increase awareness and support of the organization by being knowledgeable of GCSPCA's events and programs.
This volunteer role is responsible for coordinating and supporting the shelter’s animal programs and serving as a primary point of communication between the shelter and the public. This role manages incoming phone calls, voicemails, greets and assists guests; and provides accurate information about adoptions, foster care, and other related animal programs. This volunteer role assists the Shelter Staff with administrative paperwork, ensures work areas are clean, organized, and properly stocked. This position reports to the Shelter Manager.
Essential Volunteer Duties:
Serve as a primary point of contact for the public by answering phone calls and voicemails.
Enroll clients into GCSPCA programs and services, and input client information into internal shelter software.
Ensure all adoptable animals have photos and descriptions.
Exercise empathy, patience, and professionalism when assisting clients, including those in crisis.
Coordinate and support animal care volunteers in collaboration with the Shelter Manager.
Handle animals of various temperaments using low-stress handling techniques.
Provide daily enrichment activities to support animal well-being.
Clean and disinfect animal enclosures, dishes, litter pans, and accessories following standard operating procedures.
Perform general housekeeping tasks, including laundry, dishes, and stocking supplies.
Input and maintain accurate animal and client records in shelter software.
Assist Shelter Staff with administrative paperwork as needed.
Follow all organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Observe all safety rules for self, coworkers, volunteers, and the public.
