The American Red Cross takes action every day to serve people affected by disasters, rushing to the aid of a family, a neighborhood or an entire community. Disaster Action Team (DAT) members respond locally to all disasters whenever they occur day or night. DAT members commit to being on-call and available for defined shifts so that when an emergency occurs either a dispatcher or the Disaster Program Manager can reach them and dispatch them immediately. DAT members meet with family members to determine their immediate, disaster-caused needs. There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts during disaster relief operations across the country to help provide immediate compassion and care. Help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies so they don’t have to face tough times alone. You have the power to make an impact in your community and touch lives every day.
